Research Area

Peripheral glial cells and multipotency, cellular heterogeneity in peripheral nerves

Description

My research focuses on the classical and non-classical roles of Schwann cells and their precursors inhabiting peripheral nerves. Schwann cells and Schwann cell precursors are a perfect model for studying cell fate decisions as well as the mechanisms driving multipotency and stem-cell-like potential and the epigenetic or transcriptional regulation of lineage divergence.

Aditionally, I am interested in exploring unknown functions of less studied peripheral glia and other cell types inhabiting central and peripheral nerves, such as satellite and terminal glia, endoneurial fibroblasts and others.

Lastly, a recent focus of my work in the near future will be the evolutionary emergence of myelinating and non-myelinating glial cells.
